There’s never too little to write about when it comes to the Blackstone Valley region and the indoor track & field state championships.
This weekend’s meet, however, may border on the ridiculous. In fact, when it comes to its conclusion roughly four hours after its early 10 o’clock start on Saturday morning, there’s a good chance I’ll develop a mild case of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Margaret M. Alward
BELLINGHAM- Margaret M. (Balzi) Alward, 76, of Bellingham, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Milford Regional Medical Center with her family by her side after a long illness. She was the beloved wife for 39 years of Paul A. Alward.
Born in Boston on November 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Josephine (Petrucci) Balzi.
Laurette M. Lebrun
WOONSOCKET- Laurette M. Lebrun, 92 of Woonsocket passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 at home. She was the wife of the late John B. Lebrun.
Born in Canada she was the daughter of the late Siffroid and Rose-Anna (Masse) Henault.
Richard B. Hall, Sr
WOONSOCKET- Richard Brian Hall, Sr., 48, of Woonsocket, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on February 1, 2011.
Born July 27, 1962 in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Everett E. and Barbara E. (Bourgeois) Hall.
Richard worked for Stop & Shop Pea Pod of No. Smithfield for the last 10 years. He also was a veteran of the armed forces.
Lucille Munschy
WOONSOCKET- Lucille (Lavallee) Munschy, 78, of Congress St. Woonsocket, died Friday February 11, 2011, in Rhode Island Hospital with her family by her side.
She was the wife of Ronald C. Munschy.
Born in Webster Ma., daughter of the late Oscar and Beatrice (Bibeault) Lavallee.
Lucille worked as an inspector for Miller Electric retiring in 1995.
George A. Demers
NORTH SMITHFIELD-George A. Demers, 89, formerly of Eddie Dowling Hwy., North Smithfield, died Friday at the Rhode Island Veteran's Home in Bristol. He was the husband of the late Rita O. (Brouillette) Demers.
Born and raised in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Albert and Marion (Asselin) Demers. He resided in the home in North Smithfield he built with his father for over 50 years until moving to Bristol.
During his teen years Mr. Demers joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in Wyoming.

BURRILLVILLE – Mount St. Charles scored five goals in the third period on Saturday night to break open a competitive contest and send the Mounties to an 8-1 victory over Burrillville.
The Mounties led 3-0 after two periods before blowing the game wide open in the final stanza. Mike Magerman, Trevor Plante and Ryan Berard each scored two goals for Mount, which is now 14-1-1 on the season with two games left on the league schedule.
WOONSOCKET – Edouard Cournoyer is 95 years old now, living in the home of his son George Fontaine Jr., after spending a long career with the U.S. Army that began in 1933 and ended after nearly 35 years of service to his country.

WOONSOCKET – Time's running out for tenants who've been living rent-free in one of Main Street's largest mixed-use buildings since the property lapsed into foreclosure last year.
Westcott Properties, which manages the Commercial Block, has informed a dozen tenants who live upstairs that they have until May 1 to move out or they'll be evicted, says Murray Gereboff, the company's lawyer.
