Yvette Altomari

BURRILLVILLE- Yvette Altomari, 84, resident of Nasonville, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011, at Overlook Nursing Home in Pascoag.
She was born on October 19, 1927, daughter of the late Emile and Marie Louise (Bouley) Tousignant. She was the former owner and operator of Yvettes Discount Shoe store.
Yvette is survived by 3 daughters- Jeanne Pimental, Charlene Ross and Marie Picard, all of Burrillville, as well as 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Roland Robert Trudeau, Sr.

WOONSOCKET- Roland Robert Trudeau, Sr., 73, of Woonsocket, died Monday, December 12, 2011 in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Edward and Aurore (Bergeron) (Benoit) Trudeau.
Roland was a grounds keeper at Barry Field in North Smithfield, did maintenance for the Woonsocket Education Department and was previously a machinist for North Attleborough Tap, and Whitinsville machine shops. He enjoyed bird watching and coin collecting.

Paul A. Boucher

WOONSOCKET- Paul A. Boucher, 77, of Woonsocket, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011. He was the husband of Jennnine (Brouillette) Boucher.
Born in Montpelier, Vermont, he was the son of the late Adrien and Yvonne (Bessette) Boucher.
He was an army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Boucher enjoyed playing softball and was an avid fly fisherman at Rochambeaus.

Villa Novans ward off Sentinels in league opener

WOONSOCKET — For Division I openers, Woonsocket High coach George Coderre wasn’t exactly doing cartwheels when he saw Smithfield on the schedule. Historically, the Sentinels have always given the Villa Novans a battle whenever the two squads have faced one another on the court.
It was no different on Monday night.
Despite never trailing in its I-North contest and building a lead to as much as 14 points, Woonsocket was never in the comfort zone against the pesky Sentinels until the closing minutes of an eventual 53-41 victory at Savaria Gymnasium.

State to schools: Get house in order

WOONSOCKET — The state Department of Revenue has laid down a Wednesday deadline for the School Department to submit a plan to clarify its current rate of spending on personnel after the unexpected discovery of a deficit of $2.2 to $2.7 million in last year’s school budget.
If the inquiry points to the incursion of yet another deficit at the end of the current fiscal year, DOR might appoint a fiscal overseer to monitor the city’s expenses, state Revenue Director Rosemary Booth Gallogly said.

Man struck, killed on Main Street

WOONSOCKET — An 80-year-old city man, crossing Main Street after a visit to City Hall, suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a car Monday morning.
Police Lt. Eugene Jalette said the elderly man was struck while he was in the crosswalk in front of historic Harris Hall at about 11:20 a.m.
“The victim was transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital and was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. today,” Jalette said.

BELLINGHAM- Darlene Ann Lang, age 63, of Bellingham, MA, died peacefully in her home on the morning of Friday, December 9th after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Darlene, one of seven girls, was born in Laconia, NH on October 14, 1948 to Ernest and Louise Daigneau. She attended Quimby High School in Sandwich, NH, and then graduated Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith, NH.

BLACKSTONE- Martha A. (Orlando) Rossi, formerly of Woonsocket, RI, living the last 4 years of her life in Blackstone, MA. passed away on Dec. 10, 2011 at the Milford Regional Medical Ctr., surrounded by her family.
She was the loving wife of the late Jerry Rossi.
Born Nov. 21, 1917, in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Saverio & Maria (Devita) Orlando.
She was the "Matriarch" of the remaining "Orlando Family".

WOONSOCKET- Michelle I. (Boiteau) Masterson, 61, of Woonsocket passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center with family by her side.
She was the loving mother of Jennifer E. Masterson of Guyton, GA, Matthew J. Masterson of Woonsocket, Christopher S. Masterson and his wife Amaya of Orlando, FL and her cherished grandson Alexander C. Masterson.
Born in Woonsocket on February 27, 1950, she was the daughter of Edgar L. Boiteau, Sr. of Blackstone and the late Florence C. (Poirier) Boiteau.
