WOONSOCKET – In a town where cocaine has long been king, heroin could be making a push for supremacy in the illicit drug trade.
The latest statistics show the amount of heroin police seized in 2010 increased by a staggering 284 percent compared to the year before, while cocaine seizures dropped 54 percent. Marijuana seizures also fell – by 47 percent.
WOONSOCKET – Even though he has considerably less players than most in Division II, St. Raphael Academy coach Robert Gribbin doesn’t like to use the words “tired legs” when describing his team’s play in the late stages of a game.
But what has been a common theme among his Saints squad this winter is it seems to lose some of its luster in the third period after hanging for the first two.
It happened again Friday night in a Div. II-North battle with first-place Cumberland at Adelard Arena.

BLACKSTONE- James J. Clancy 86, of Farnum St. Blackstone, died Thursday. He was the husband of Lucille (Gagnon) Clancy.
Mr. Clancy was born in Boston, MA. He worked for the Cushing Hospital in Framingham for 30 years.
Visiting hours will be held Monday 9:00-11:00 AM at the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. Woonsocket, with a service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private. Monaghan
FRANKLIN- Gregory E. Monaghan, 59, of Franklin, MA died, Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Milford Care & Rehabilitation Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Deborah (Guyette) Monaghan who he married in 1975.
Born in Newton, MA on June 3, 1951, he was a son of Mary (Driscoll) Monaghan of Millis, MA and the late James Monaghan.
Mr. Monaghan was a resident of Franklin for 25 years and formerly resided in Medway, MA and Millis. He was a graduate of Millis High School, Class of 1969.

CUMBERLAND — In states where wrestling holds a prominent place in the high school sports winter season -- Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Iowa come to mind – people flock to big dual-meets in large numbers. When two unbeaten teams meet, fans and coaches and former wrestlers fill the stands, contributing to a raucous setting not often seen in Rhode Island.
WOONSOCKET – From wrecked rims to bodily injury, the claims for damages have come pouring into City Hall after a ruinous spate of winter weather that turned streets into pothole-ridden obstacle courses and sidewalks to skating rinks.
The City Council will consider at least 11 of them when the panel meets Monday, an unhappy collection of weather-related insults to walls, fences, motor vehicles and, in at least one case, a human being.
Raymond N. Parent
LINCOLN - Raymond N. Parent, 89 of Sayles Hill Road, Manville died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of the late Therese J. (Leduc) Parent.
Born in Mohegan, RI, a son of the late Alexandre and Zainaide (Jolicoeur) Parent, he had lived in Manville for the past 66 years.
A communicant of St. James Church, Manville, Mr. Parent was the sexton of the Church for 25 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Lincoln Council #4005, Knights of Columbus, Lincoln.
Kenneth P. Romblad
WOONSOCKET- Kenneth P. Romblad, 44, of Willow St., died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of Frances R. (Gagnon) Romblad of FL and the late Kenneth O. Romblad.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Michael Romblad of Altoona, PA, and Daniel Romblad of Pascoag and two sisters, Lisa Eithier of Woonsocket and Lori Barr of Oxford, MA.
Jeanne L. Peloquin
BLACKSTONE- Jeanne L. Peloquin, 68, of Blackstone, MA, died peacefully February 15, 2011, at Blaire House of Milford MA surrounded by family.
She was born November 16, 1942, in Woonsocket, RI, the daughter of late Florence and Alfred Marchand. She was second oldest of 5 children.
She spent the better parts of her life helping others; putting their needs before her own.
