WOONSOCKET — A Cumberland lawyer who fought the state law that allowed Central Falls to enter receivership will be a guest of the City Council tonight.
With so much talk in the air advocating receivership for Woonsocket, officials are hoping Michael Kelly can provide some balance, said Councilman Albert G. Brien.
“He was very much involved in Central Falls and I was hoping we might be able to glean whether his experience there could be helpful to us as we debate the pros and cons of this issue,” said Brien, a staunch detractor of receivership.

PROVIDENCE – What are the five most important things to know if you are thinking about running for office? How do you raise money for a political campaign? How can a challenger defeat an incumbent in an election?
Those are just some of the questions that will be raised and answered by some of the state’s political, media and good-government luminaries at Operation Clean Government’s 2012 Candidate’s School.
WOONSOCKET – Even if just a handful of noteworthy sites in the sprawling Blackstone River Heritage Corridor became part of the national park system, as the government recommends, the possibilities for promoting tourism-based economic development throughout the whole region would be greatly enhanced, a top National Park Service official says.
PAWTUCKET – Yes, most of the excitement and suspense of the presidential primary process has fizzled out now that Mitt Romney is the presumptive Republican nominee to challenge Democratic President Obama in November. But Rhode Island is going ahead with its primary on Tuesday.
President Obama is unopposed on the Democratic side, but there is a column for uncommitted delegates.
PROVIDENCE (AP) — The daughter of former Providence Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci Jr. was found dead Friday morning of an apparent overdose, police said.
An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death of 38-year-old Nicole Cianci, police Cmdr. Thomas Oates III said.
Authorities responded to a residence in the city's Federal Hill neighborhood for a report of an overdose and found Nicole Cianci, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Oates said. He said she was with a male roommate, whom she had been living with for the last few weeks.
WOONSOCKET — As soon as senior Zack Viveiros grounded out to third to end the top of the sixth inning, Tolman High skipper Theo Murray huddled his troops in front of their first-base dugout early Friday afternoon and implored them to exhibit outstanding defense.
“This is it,” he told them, referring to the Tigers’ 2-1 cushion. “They’ve got 9-1-2 (the ninth, first and second batters) coming up! We’ve got to get out of this inning!”
