BURRILLVILLE- Brother Armand L. Gamache, S.C., (Brother John Damian), 86, of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Provincial House, Pascoag, RI, died September 20, 2011 at Mt. St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland, RI.
Born in Nashua, NH, he was the son of the late Lionel Gamache and Marie (Gingras) Gamache.

WOONSOCKET- Elizabeth (Santucci) Viscione, 89, of Dana St., died June 16, 2011. She was the wife of the late Louis Viscione.
Born in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Donato and Concetta (Cecca) Santucci.
Mrs. Viscione worked as a credit manager for the former Carol Cable, Woonsocket and was previously employed as a cashier for the former Collimatti Market, Woonsocket. Her passion was her family and cooking.

Menard drops out of mayoral race

WOONSOCKET — Without uttering a single word, former Mayor Susan D. Menard made it official yesterday: She will not be a candidate for mayor, leaving the freshman incumbent, Mayor Leo T. Fontaine, to walk into a second term without opposition.
Menard did not return signed nomination forms to the Board of Canvassers by Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, excluding herself from further competition in this season's balloting. In fact, despite publicly professing serious interest in taking on Fontaine last month, she never picked up the blank forms, which had been available at City Hall since Sept. 6.

Alert neighbor helps catch alleged prowler

WOONSOCKET — An observant neighbor helped police in the arrest of a city man charged with breaking into cars on North Main Street Sunday evening.
Todd J. Green, 40, of 502 North Main St., was later arrested on a charge of tampering with motor vehicles in connection with the case, police said.
Patrolman Enrique Sosa reported patrol officers responded to the 300 block of North Main Street just before 9 p.m. after a resident of the area observed a man attempting to break into a neighbor’s van and went out to confront him.

WOONSOCKET- Maxine A. (Chamberland) Degre 57, of Manville Rd. died Monday at Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of Rene E. Degre.
Born in Hartford, CT she was the daughter of Maximin Chamberland of Woonsocket and the late Phyllis (Garland) Chamberland.
Maxine was a driver for the Tellstone Bus Co. for over five years retiring in 2002. She enjoyed knitting, bingo, traveling and attending Pow Wows. Maxine also loved Tweety Bird and butterflies.

WOONSOCKET- Filomena (Gesualdi) Proietti, 88, of St. Antoine Residence, formerly of Greene St., Chateau Claire, died Monday, September 19, 2011. She was the wife of the late Vincent Proietti.
Born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Francisco and Rosaria (DeCotis) Gesualdi. Mrs. Proietti worked as an Office Manager for the former Almacs, for several years.
She was a member of St. Agatha's Seniors, and St. Joseph Seniors and she also volunteer for 27 years at the Palm Beach Medical Center, while Filomena and her husband vacation in Florida, for the winter.

Clippers sweep cross-country meet

CUMBERLAND – Winning another Northern Division title would be nice, but that’s not the No. 1 priority for head coach Tom Kenwood and his Cumberland High squad this fall.
With a talented team with plenty of depth, the Clippers are hoping to place among the top six at the state meet in early November and earn a ticket to the New England Championship. The last time that’s been done was the 2005-06 season when the Cumberland placed third behind team champion Bishop Hendricken.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Leonard "Lenny" E. Plasse, Jr., 70, a lifelong resident of North Smithfield, died September 18, 2011 at the Summit Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Providence surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 21, 1941 in Woonsocket, RI, a son of the late Leonard, Sr. & Doris (Romprey) Plasse, he was the loving husband of Gladys (Steere) Plasse.

MIAMISBURG, OH- Chester S. Makowski, 86, of Miamisburg, OH passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Elmcroft Assisted Living, after battling cancer for the last year.
Chet was born in Hatfield, MA on January 14, 1925 to the late Stella (Kacsinski) and Michael A. Makowski.
In addition to his parents, Chet was preceded in death by his brother, Michael and his wives, Frances Brown (1976) and Doris Gibson Yaindl (2003).
He was a resident of Pascoag, RI for over 35 years.

STILWELL, KS- Roger DeVuyst A memorial mass celebrating the life of Roger DeVuyst will be held at St. Agatha's Church, 34 Joffre Ave Woonsocket, RI on Monday the 26th of September, 2011 at 10am.
Roger DeVuyst, a life long resident of Woonsocket and owner of Roger's Restaurant on Hamlet Ave in Woonsocket, passed at the home of his son in Stilwell, KS on Feb 7 of this year.
All friends and acquaintances are invited to attend the services.
A short gathering of friends, and relations will be held immediately after the services in the church hall.
