Fire Engulfs North Smithfield Shed

November 8, 2011

North Smithfield firefighters work to contain a blaze in an outdoor shed on the premises of 520 Buxton St. in North Smithfield at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. According North Smithfield Fire Chief Joel Jillson, the fire was called in at 9:23 p.m. and minutes later firefighters arrived to find the shed fully engulfed. Six engines and a tanker truck from Burrillville responded and the flames were extinguished minutes later. No injuries were reported. (photo by Ernest A. Brown)

BELLINGHAM- Thomas A. Perron, 56, passed November 7th. He was the husband of Diane L. (Cardinal) Perron.
He had been employed by Stop and Shop, IGA and Andreoni Market, then retired due to illness from Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Cherie Lee Perron of New Britain, CT, a son, Thomas A. Perron of Bellingham, MA, a sister, Joanne Cranshaw of Lincoln, a brother, Rev. Robert P. Perron of Pawtucket and several nieces and nephews.

NO.SMITHFIELD- Richard J. Beauchemin, Sr. 85, of Gilfillan Rd. and Bonnet Shores, Narragansett died Monday, November 7, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Diana (Frankian) Beauchemin whom he married November 29, 1952.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Alcee H. and Hilda (Lavallee) Beauchemin and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

NO. SMITHFIELD- David J. Brodeur, 43, of Patricia Ave., died unexpectedly Friday, November 4, 2011 at home.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of Patricia A. (Fiedorowicz) Brodeur of No. Smithfield and the late Leonel A. Brodeur.
David was a classic car enthusiast, owning and showing many of his own cars.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Michael R. Brodeur and his wife Lisa of Blackstone and two nieces, Meagan & Jessica Brodeur. He was the brother of the late Mary Brodeur.

WOONSOCKET- Abney, Evelyn Jean, 54, of 2nd Avenue, died November 5, 2011 in Home & Hospice Care of RI. She is daughter of the late Walter L. Abney and Susie B. (Watts) Abney.
She is survived by 1 son Kawanna T. Abney, 2 grandchildren Malik T. and Trinity A. Abney, 2 siblings, Lillie Harmon and Benny Abney and a host of nieces and nephews. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be dearly missed.
Service Thursday at 11 am in All Nations C.O.G.I.C., 531 Fairmount St. Woonsocket RI. Calling hours Thursday 10-11 am in the church.

MILLVILLE, MA- Stephen "Larry" Wood, 59, of Millville and formerly of Milford died Thursday afternoon (November 3, 2011) at his home after a short illness. He was the husband of Kristin C. (Carlson) Wood.
He was born in Boston the son of the late Stephen L. and the late Maree T. (Flanigan) Wood and lived in Milford before moving to Millville 24 years ago.

Burrillville's playoff runs ends with shootout loss

BURRILLVILLE — Burrillville High beat the darkness. It just couldn't beat its opponent.
No. 7 seed West Warwick High gave the second-seeded Broncos a quick exit in the postseason with a 3-2 overtime victory Monday afternoon in the Division III quarterfinals. Senior captain Rebecca Pacheco out-hustled two defenders and nailed the clincher over the head of goalie Vicki Libby just two minutes into the second mandatory OT period.
“It just came down to who wanted it more,” said Bronco head coach Amy Cardone. “It was pretty close up until the very end.”

Shea tops Cumberland, returns to Div. I finals

CRANSTON — Shea High shook free from a determined Cumberland team on Monday night at Cranston Stadium and advanced to the Division I state finals for the second straight season with a 3-0 victory over the Clippers.
The Raiders, who lost in the 2010 finals to Barrington, will meet top-ranked La Salle in Saturday’s high noon showdown at Rhode Island College’s pitch. The two teams tied 2-2 during their only regular season meeting.

Cumberland spikes Tolman in Div. II playoffs

CUMBERLAND — After shaking off some rust in the first game, Cumberland High went into playoff mode and is now just two big wins from the school's first-ever state championship.
Fueled by an outstanding night from junior Sam Bertherman and a solid all-around effort from her teammates, the third-seeded Clippers swept by No. 6 seed Tolman, 3-0, in the Division II quarterfinals on Monday at the Wellness Center. Cumberland won with scores of 25-23, 25-4, 25-9.
