BELLINGHAM - Jessie J.E. Joseph, 88, of Bellingham, MA passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2011 at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield, RI with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Lucia B. (Pierannunzi) Joseph.

CUMBERLAND — Home is where the heart is, not to mention the wallet.
On Wednesday morning, several dignitaries — including U.S. Rep. David Cicilline, Mayor Daniel McKee, Rhode Island Housing Executive Director Richard Godfrey and Cumberland Housing Authority Board of Commissioners Chair Eugene McMahon – attended an open house celebrating the two new, affordable housing units at 26 Carpenter St.
All expressed delight with the camaraderie and partnerships it took to construct the pair of three-bedroom apartments, one on top of the other.

Mount skates into tourney final

WOONSOCKET --- Mount St. Charles has earned the right to defend its own Holiday Face-Off tournament title, but in order to get back to the finals, MSC had to overcome the superb play of a scorching-hot goaltender.
St. Dominic Academy of Auburn, Maine received a brilliant 56-save effort by Grant Carrier, but Mount was able to get key goals from two of its freshmen and skate off with a 3-0 victory on Wednesday night in the semifinals of their 16th annual tournament at Adelard Arena.

Crawley second in R.I. Track Classic 3,000-meter race

PROVIDENCE – Whether it’s a cross-country or track race, there’s only one place where Trevor Crawley feels the most comfortable, and that’s right up front.
“I don’t like not leading,” said the Cumberland High junior. “I don’t feel like it’s my race.”
For almost the entire distance of the 3,000-meter run at Wednesday’s Rhode Island Track Classic, Crawley took his customary, front-runner position, rattling off consistent 200 splits between 36-37 seconds.
The Clipper standout did the necessary work for a victory in the regional meet, it just wasn’t enough.

CUMBERLAND- Delia P. (Rego) Lima 92, of Cumberland, affectionately know as "Dee", born in West Warwick, RI to Manuel and Teolinda (Silva) Rego; the eldest of twelve children. She was the loving wife of 66 years to Felix A. Lima.
Dee was a registered nurse, for more than 45 years, beginning her career at Notre Dame Hospital in Central Falls, RI, and later worked as a private nurse for Dr. Upton Savoie.

CUMBERLAND- Clarinda A. (Chaput) Walsh, 105, of Mendon Rd. died Tuesday at home. She was the beloved wife for 65 years of the late Thomas F. Walsh Jr.
Born in Suncook, NH she was the daughter of the late Delvini and Marie L. (Veilleux) Chaput. She had resided in Cumberland since 1942 previously living in West Warwick.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church and a founding member of the St. Patrick Mothers Club. She was also a charter member of the former St. Thomas Knights of Columbus, Women's Guild, Cumberland.

LINCOLN- Yvette I. Laforest, 91, of Sayles Hill Road, died Wednesday, December 28, at the Holiday Retirement Home, Manville.
Born in the Manville section of Lincoln, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Ida (Guevremont) Laforest, she had lived in Manville and Cumberland.
Miss Laforest was a File Clerk for Providence Washington Insurance Co.
She was a member of the Riverside Village Tenants Association and a communicant of St. James Church, Manville.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Holiday Retirement Home for their excellent care.

NORTH SMITHFILED- Frances A. (Serafin) Melnyk, 89, of No. Smithfield, passed away on Dec. 24th at the home of her daughter, Patricia A. Peters in Rush, CO. She was the loving wife of the late Russell Melnyk.
Born January 28, 1922, in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Martin P. and Anna (Kamfonik) Serafin.
She resided in No. Smithfield most of her life.
