WOONSOCKET- Theresa R. (Dubois) Leduc, 86, of Woonsocket, RI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Saint Antoine Residence, North Smithfield with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Jean A. Leduc.
Born in Woonsocket on February 3, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Adrien and Loretta (Landry) Dubois.

SMITHFIELD- Steiner, Eleanor I., 80, of Sebille Road, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011. She was the wife of Robert J. Steiner.
She had lived in Smithfield for the past 20 years previously living in Woonsocket. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed yard sales.
Besides her husband she is survived by her children: Suzanne Chauvin, Edward Tessier and Deborah Eaton her stepsons: Michael, Conrad, Robert, Karl and Joseph Steiner, 31 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, and her sister Evelyn Deshaies.

CUMBERLAND- Alice P. (Guertin) Careau, 83, of Maplewoods Farm, Cumberland, died Tuesday at Landmark Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Edward J. Careau with whom she celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 31, 2011.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Armand and Rose Anna (Masse) Guertin.
Mrs. Careau was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Italian Workingmen's Club Ladies Auxiliary, an avid bingo player and enjoyed board games.

BURRILLVILLE- Debra L. Stockwell-Cavanaugh, 47, of Harrisville, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of Michael Cavanaugh.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Lydia (Thomas) Stockwell of Harrisville and the late Myron Stockwell.
Debra worked as the Head of Facilities at Zambarano Hospital for 29 years. She was the Chairwoman of the Burrillville School Committee, held many positions with the Democratic town party and was involved in the RI Emergency Management Service.

BURRILLVILLE- Jeanne Lawrence 94, resident of Mapleville, passed away October 11, 2011 at Bayberry Commons in Pascoag. Loving wife of 63 years to Arthur Lawrence.
Born on March 29, 1917 in Mapleville RI, a daughter of the late August & Oringa (Vanasse) Marcoux.
She worked for the state lunch program and the former Stillwater Worsted. She enjoyed sewing, cross stitching and cooking.

Non-leaguers, league games on tap this weekend

Three competitive non-league games on Friday night and a Division IV clash for second place on Saturday afternoon highlight what appears to be a ‘ho-hum’ high school football schedule this weekend in the Blackstone Valley.
On Friday at 7 p.m., there are a handful of non-league games around Rhode Island pitting Division I teams against Division II teams, and three of the games involve schools in our backyard, East Providence, Tolman, and St. Raphael.
The Division I Townies will host nearby Division II-B foe Mount Hope at Pierce Field in a showdown that’s sure to attract many East Bay fans.

Cumberland tennis coach believes team doesn't belong in state's top division

CUMBERLAND — After a little more than an hour on Wednesday afternoon, Cumberland High coach John Jasionowski watched his squad suffer a quick 7-0 loss to Division I power Mount St. Charles Academy.
While most of their matches haven’t been quite as quick, the end result has been status quo for the winless Clippers this fall, owners of an 0-10 mark and last place in I-North. Last year, Cumberland had a similar record in its first season in the state’s toughest division, finishing 2-11 overall.

Monument rededicated

WOONSOCKET — William Glatki is 91 now and enjoying his retirement years in Forestdale. But Glatki took the time on Monday to travel over to Oak Hill Cemetery on Rathbun Street with a few friends to help rededicate a special local monument that bears his father's name.
Stephen Glatki is listed at the top of one of the columns of 90 names affixed to a large boulder that once stood at the former U.S. Rubber Company's Alice Mill plant off Fairmount Street honoring plant employees who went off to fight in World War I.

BELLINGHAM- Frederick P. "Fred" Beauchesne, 79, of Bellingham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary B. "Beverly" (Tessitore) Beauchesne.
Born in Boston on July 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Emile and Madaline (Fortin) Beauchesne. He was the loving father of Frederick P. Beauchesne, Jr. and his wife Heather of Bellingham, MA and David Clemmer and his wife Faye of Taunton, MA. He leaves his cherished 8 grandchildren.

Primary may be election forecast

WOONSOCKET — Local voters did their job during Tuesday’s non-partisan primary for City Council, pruning the field of 15 candidates by one, and may also have provided an informal forecast for the November 8th election.
The small turnout of 2001 voters decided to drop perennial election candidate Michael E. Moniz from the list of contenders and also named City Council President John F. Ward the top vote getter despite his placement of last on the ballot list.
