WARWICK --- Victories don’t get any bigger than this one.
Mount St. Charles knocked Bishop Hendricken from the unbeaten ranks on Friday night by skating to an impressive 4-1 win in their Division I contest at Thayer Arena.
Junior center Brian Belisle scored a pair of unassisted goals late in the third period for the Mounties, who improved to 6-4 and dropped the Hawks to 10-1-1.
The Mounties took a 2-0 lead on Ryan Berard’s goal 6:55 into the game and Callan Morisseau’s goal 1:50 into the second period before the Hawks tied the score midway through that period.

Mount girls edge arch-rival Bay View

WOONSOCKET --- Caitlin Shea’s unassisted goal with 3:19 to play in the second period snapped a 2-2 tie, and Mount St. Charles was able to hold on the rest of the way and grab a 3-2 win over rival Bay View on Friday night at Adelard Arena.
The victory was the eighth in a row for the Mounties, who are 10-1 and had suffered their loss back on Dec. 16 to the Bengals, 2-1.

Lady Novans outlast SRA, 41-36

WOONSOCKET – On a night in which she was honored for scoring her 1,000 career point earlier this season, senior Kailey Fugere and the rest of her Woonsocket High teammates cooled off a resurging St. Raphael Academy program Friday night with a 41-36 decision at Savaria Gymnasium.
Fugere, who was recognized for her milestone during a halftime ceremony, finished with 17 points. The game was hardly the Villa Novans best effort, however, as St. Ray’s overcame a 14-point deficit before the break and made their host sweat it out until the final buzzer.

Marshfield Commons puts town over state housing cap

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A coalition of non-profit and private developers broke ground Wednesday at Marshfield Commons, a 38-unit housing development that will enable the town to reach its state-mandated threshold for affordable housing.
Called “a model of rural smart growth,” the tract of townhouse style two- and three-bed units preserves three-quarters of its 6.3-acre Mechanic Street construction site as open space.

Mayor pushes for probe of missing evidence

WOONSOCKET – The controversy over a gold necklace that mysteriously vanished from a police evidence locker found its way to City Hall Friday, where Mayor Leo T. Fontaine promised a full-blown investigation into what happened to the missing valuable.
“This is certainly a matter of some concern and we’re going to do everything we can to get to the bottom of it,” said the mayor.

CUMBERLAND- Louise M. Toupin, 90, passed away January 25, 2012 at Trinity Health & Rehabilitation, Woonsocket, RI under Odyssey Hospice Care.
Born August 20, 1921 in Woonsocket, RI, a widow of Ernest H. Toupin, she had been a Cumberland resident for over 60 years.
She was a daughter of the late Andrew and Corana Monteiro and a sister of William W. Monteiro of Bellingham, MA and the late Anna Garcia.

WOONSOCKET- Alma G. Gauvin 97, formerly of Mendon Rd., Woonsocket died Monday January 23rd at Bradford Ct. in Pascoag. She was the wife of the late Leo E. Gauvin.
Born in Mapleville, she was a daughter of the late Zenon and Virginie (Beaudoin) Ducharme.
Mrs. Gauvin was a spinner for several area worsted companies for over twenty years before retiring in 1970.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Alfred, Homer, Peter, J. Roderick, and Noe Louis Ducharme, Delia Plante, Lillian Letondress, and Celina Dora Robitaille.

WOONSOCKET- Rosemary A. (Salome) Beauregard, 71, of Privilege St., died Thursday, January, 26, 2012 in the Trinity Health and Rehabilitation Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of Normand A. Beauregard for 52 years. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice (Corey) Salome.
Mrs. Beauregard was a homemaker while raising her five children. She previously worked at McCarthy's Dry Goods, and Sears in Woonsocket. She especially enjoyed trips to Disney World, Christmas and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

PAWTUCKET --- The fans who packed Lynch Arena on Thursday hoping to see a tight game between Lincoln and Cumberland that resembled the double-overtime thriller they played in the Toll Gate Holiday Tournament finals didn’t get their wish granted.
The Lions erupted for three goals in the second period and two in the first 5½ minutes of the third and held the Clippers to just 19 shots on net en route to a 6-2 win in the Kyle J. McLaughlin Scholarship Fund benefit hockey game.
