GLOCESTER – Members of Ponaganset High School’s Class of 2011 are setting out in life with a good understanding of what will face them in the years ahead.
There will be many successes and high points of happiness and also difficult times and feelings of loss.

AG: No state case against Pleau in Main death

WOONSOCKET – A day after the governor vowed to protect accused killer Jason Wayne Pleau from a possible federal death penalty by holding him for prosecution on state charges, the attorney general released this bit of news: there are no state charges.
The state dismissed the murder case against Pleau after he was sentenced to 18 years for being in violation of his probation by allegedly shooting to death 49-year-old gas station manager David D. Main on Sept. 20, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin said in a statement released yesterday.

WOONSOCKET- Alan G. Fernandes, 49, of River St. died suddenly Tuesday June 21, 2011, after a unforeseeable accident, at a construction site in the City.
He was the husband of Sara J. (Conley) Fernandes.
Born in Woonsocket, son of Robert J. Fernandes, of Woonsocket, and the late Constance ( Turcotte ) Fernandes.
He worked as a forklift operator for CVS Warehouse for 20 years, and also for the City of Woonsocket.

Loving wife to the late Edward H. McGuill.
Born Oct. 8, 1929 in Britton SD, a daughter of the late Alfred & Lydia (Schnabel) Johnson.
Mary was a secretary for the Burrillville School Department for many years; she was a lifelong Burrillville resident. She enjoyed traveling and working outdoors.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Miriam L. (Baker) Baldwin, 82, formerly of Slatersville died Monday, June 20, 2011 in Overlook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Pascoag. She was the wife of the late William B. Baldwin.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late James and Grace (Sugden) Baker.
She was a former member of the Slatersville Congregational Church.
She is survived by her son, Richard W. Baldwin of Slatersville. She was the mother of the late Harold A. Baldwin.

Police charge city man with sexually assaulting 25-year-old pregnant woman

WOONSOCKET – A city man was indicted Thursday on charges of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 25-year-old pregnant woman and then trying to persuade a witness to lie about the attack.
The Providence County grand jury charged Jason Nickerson, 30, with four counts of domestic first-degree sexual assault and attempting to procure perjury.
Nickerson is also charged with one count each of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault with intent to commit sexual assault.

Schools tap Trailor as interim superintendent

WOONSOCKET – The School Committee has tapped retired Connecticut and Lincoln Superintendent of Schools, Colette B. Trailor, to fill the local district’s available interim superintendent post.
On Wednesday night, the committee voted 4 to 1, with member Vimala Phongsavanh opposed, to name Trailor as departing Supt. Robert J. Gerardi’s temporary replacement.

BELLINGHAM, MA- Anna L. (Roy) Gaboury, 91, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, surrounded by her loving family and her wonderful caregivers at the Ballou Home in Woonsocket, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late Omer R. Gaboury, who died December 25, 2008.
They were married on June 7, 1941, in the former St. Ann's Church in Woonsocket.
Anna was born April 5, 1920, in St. Francis Province of Quebec. Canada, the daughter of the late Urbain and Marie Louise (Ducheneau) Roy.
