NORTH SMITHFIELD â€“Mount St. Charles didnâ€™t need any extra time to settle the issue on this particular night.
A dominating first period gave the Mounties all the offense they would need on Friday as they swept North Smithfield in their best-of-3 Division I semifinal series with a 5-2 victory at the R.I. Sports Center. Samantha Smith and Erin Rouleau each scored and had an assist as the defending state champions return to familiar territory.
WOONSOCKET --- When La Salle Academy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes of Friday nightâ€™s series-opening game with Mount St. Charles Academy, the Mounties and their fans were feeling a bit uneasy and restless.
It was the Rams who dealt the Mounties their lone loss of the regular season -- a 3-0 defeat back on Feb. 4 -- and it was the fourth-seeded Rams who came out determined to knock off the top-seeded, three-time defending champions.
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Ms. Sylvia Dimitrescu of North Smithfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Oakland Grove Rehabilitation Center on March 3, 2011.
Born in Woonsocket, the daughter of the late Mihail and Anastasia (Dima) Dimitrescu.
Sylvia was employed as a store manager for Mason-Preston Stationers and P.M. Lolly of Woonsocket. She also was a purchasing sales administrator for Office Concepts of Providence.
Sister Emrentienne Richer (St.-Camille-d-Lellis) of the congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Saint-Hyacinthe passed away on March 10th at the age of 106.
Jocelin L. Martel
WOONSOCKET- Jocelin L. Martel, 32, of Woonsocket, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center with her family by her side, from complications of pneumonia.
Born on June 16, 1978 in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of Robin A. Martel of Woonsocket and the late Clement A. Charland.
WOONSOCKET â€” Three periods, each one 15 minutes long, were not enough for Mount St. Charles and North Smithfield. Neither were two overtime periods. It was then off to a shootout, where a victor in this hard-fought playoff contest was finally decided.
Senior tri-captain Samantha Smith delivered the lone tally of the shootout and goalie Sarah Erban stopped all five shots she faced as MSC took Game 1 of the best-of-three semifinals, 3-2, Thursday night at Adelard Arena. The series shifts to the Rhode Island Sports Center for Game 2 tonight.

Normand Trank Sr,
PAWTUCKET - Normand Trank Sr, 46, passed March 9th.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of Jeanne (Fontaine) Trank and the late Peter G. Trank.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a son, Normand (Trank Jr.) Brissette of Blackstone, MA, two brothers, Peter Trank and Edgar Trank, both of North Carolina, two sisters, Katherine Trank of Coventry and Sheila Ouellette of Woonsocket, and his nine year domestic partner, Timothy Webb of Pawtucket. He was the brother of the late Donald Trank.
Celine G. Guillemette
WOONSOCKET- Celine G. Guillemette 92, formerly of 40 Washington St. Woonsocket, died Thursday at The Friendly Home. She was the wife of the late Roger J. Guillemette.
Born in St. Etienne De Bolton, PQ, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Archille and Alpherida (Bachand) Decelles.
Mrs. Guillemette spent most of her time as a homemaker taking care of her family and also worked part time at the former Almac's Supermarket for twenty five years. She was a member of the Woonsocket Senior Center and St. Agatha's Senior Citizens.
Teresa I. Piekos
WHITE PLAINS, NY- Teresa (Terry) I. Piekos, retired elementary teacher at St. Anthony's School in Harrison and librarian for 24 years at the Port Chester Middle School, died Monday, March 7, at age 83.
She was the beloved wife for over 61 years of Thaddeus (Ted) J. Piekos, formerly Chairman of Mathematics at White Plains High School. She was born in Woonsocket, RI.
She is survived by three daughters, Dr. Jan M Owens of Racine, Wisconsin, Marilyn Woodside, Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Kittery, Maine, and Paula Piekos of White Plains.
