Driscoll making sure Friars stick together

PROVIDENCE — Keno Davis never failed to mention that Providence College featured one of the youngest men’s basketball teams in the Big East, if not the country. Many saw that as a plea or a copout on Davis’ part, but the fact that the Friars’ 2010-11 roster was comprised of 10 first- or second-year players is not lost on athletic director Bob Driscoll.

WOONSOCKET- BOURGET, Robert R. "Bob" 64, passed March 12th surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Gerald and Jeanne (Poirier) Bourget.
He had been the proprietor of Bobby B's auto repair for many years before retiring and had also worked at the Moshassuck Cemetery. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Bob was a proud Veteran of the Vietnam War.

WOONSOCKET- Lucille C. (Gagne) Leduke, 59, of Logee St., died Thursday, March 10, 2011, in Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Lucille (Champagne) Sullivan and step-daughter of the late Francis Sullivan.
She worked many years as a school bus driver for Valley Transportation, Woonsocket.

TIVERTON, RI- Sophie (Nichola), 82, of Tiverton, RI passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton.
She was the wife of the late Roger E. Peloquin.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on March 6, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Paul and Constance (Coca) Nichola.

RANCHO BERNARDO, CA- Raymond "Ray" Norman Demers, age 82 of Rancho Bernardo, CA peacefully passed on Thursday, March 10, 2011 surrounded by his family. Ray, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, received his wings after living with dementia for nearly five years.
Ray was born on August 13, 1928 in Manville, RI, the second of five children to Rose & Arthur Demers, brother to Richard (deceased), Roger, Rita and Rainey.

WOONSOCKET - Therese A. Frappier, 86, formerly of Roberts St., Woonsocket, died Sunday at St. Antoine Residence.
Born in St. Hyacinthe, PQ, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia (Crepeau) Frappier.
She was a resident of Woonsocket for most of her life and also resided in Blackstone for several years.
In her younger years she worked at Berkshire Spinning in Albion and later was employed at the French Worsted Mill.

LINCOLN- Ms. Christine A. Nowak, 50, passed away Sunday March 13, 2011.
Born in Providence she was a daughter of the late Joseph A. Nowak and the late Helen B. (Kopacki) Nowak who died March 8, 2011.
A 1978 graduate of Lincoln High School, she was a 1982 honors graduate of the University of Rhode Island where she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and history.

CRANSTON- BRENNAN, EDWARD J. NED, 73, of Bryant Rd., Cranston, formerly of Woonsocket, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at home.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the devoted son of the late Edward and Margaret (Walsh) Brennan.
Ned worked for the State of RI, Office of Rehabilitation Services for 32 years before retiring. He was a 1955 graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy and later did his graduate studies in Rochester, NY. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed playing the ukulele.

WOONSOCKET- Charlotte P. Chagnon 92, of 10 Rhodes Ave. N. Smithfield died Thursday at St. Antoine Residence. She was born in Woonsocket a daughter of the late Ovide and Delmerise (Beaudet) Chagnon. Miss Chagnon received her Bachelors degree from Trinity College in Washington DC and her Masters at Brown University. She was a math teacher at Woonsocket High School and CCRI for many years. She was a member and past president of the Trinity Club and a long time volunteer for Meals On Wheels.
