PROVIDENCE — By the time the No. 2 West Warwick volleyball team used its first timeout Tuesday night, it became pretty clear which team was going to make its first trip to the Division II final.

Undefeated top-seed North Smithfield took advantage of the Wizards’ biggest deficiency this season – passing – to score 13 of the first 18 points in the Division II semifinals at Brown’s Pizzitola Center.

Police: Drunken altercation led to Burrillville murder

BURRILLVILLE — Steven Pietrowicz and Michelle Morin, the Burrillville couple charged with killing 60-year-old Domingo Ortiz whose body was found under newly poured concrete at their home in Nasonville, used their hands and a club to beat Ortiz - whose legs were tied — before his body was dumped in a hand-dug grave beneath a recently built exterior deck in the early morning hours of May 6.

Pair charged with Ortiz murder

BURRILLVILLE – After identifying Domingo Ortiz, 60, of Worcester, on Saturday as the man found buried a day earlier at 505 Douglas Pike, police arrested two people on charges of murder in connection with his death.

Burrillville Police Chief Col. Stephen Lynch announced in a statement that members of the Burrillville department, members of the R.I. State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force, and Worcester Police Department had arrested Michelle Morin, 50, of the 505 Douglas Pike residence, on an arrest warrant charging her with the murder of Ortiz.

PROVIDENCE  –  Nick Koprusak, senior quad-captain of the Burrillville/North Smithfield Co-op squad, had just played his heart out at Brown University’s Stevenson Field early Sunday afternoon, but he really couldn’t come to grips with the way his team’s season had ended.

He had expected more, especially after playing such a key role in his Broncos’ capture of the Division I/Eccleston League state championship in ice hockey almost two months to the day before.

Burrillville body identified as missing Worcester man

BURRILLVILLE – Police on Saturday positively identified the body that was unearthed from 505 Douglas Pike as 60-year-old Domingo Ortiz, a Worcester man who was last seen on May 5 visiting that location.

Police unearthed human remains Friday after returning to 505 Douglas Pike for the third time in less than two weeks. Ortiz’s body was found in a shallow grave beneath a recently built exterior deck on the neglected house, located just south of the Western Hotel in the town’s Nasonville section. The grave had been sealed with a layer of concrete.
