Most veterans know that the Disabled American Veterans organization exists. Many of them do not know that the DAV can be their best friend and a major advocate when they seek benefits later on in life from disabilities that can be linked to their time in the U.S. military.
â€śThe sad part is a lot of veterans, especially Vietnam veterans, donâ€™t know whatâ€™s available to them (in terms of benefits from the Veterans Administration),â€ť said Rick Vaccari, a DAV supervisor.
The CALL is seeking photos of Blackstone Valley military veterans, whether they served in war zones or not. Please send photos to our email box: email@example.com or drop them off in the Veterans mail basket located on the front desk of The CALL's office at 75 Main St., Woonsocket.

State Rep. Ryan Fattman showed up dressed for the occasion Thursday, serving as guest host of the 2nd annual St. Patrick's Day luncheon for seniors, held at the Bellingham Senior Center. The event was sponsored by the Bellingham Police Association and featured a traditional corned beef dinner provided by the Coachmenâ€™s Lodge, of Bellingham.
WOONSOCKET â€“ The School Department may have to take another look at its 2011-12 school budget after getting figures on Gov. Lincoln Chafeeâ€™s state aid for schools during the same period.
Chafee on Tuesday released information on his proposed state budget for 2011-12 that may end up penalizing the local district even while increasing its overall award of state aid.
