Lincoln High closes 2012 with flurry of activity

LINCOLN — It was a beehive of activity over the past two months at Lincoln High School, where students took part in several programs and activities.

Town eyeing school safety measures

BURRILLVILLE — School Supt. Frank Pallotta has set up a special assessment team to evaluate existing school safety measures and review ideas and proposals to improve school safety.
In the meantime, until that team reports its findings, police patrol officers will have a presence in all of the schools on a daily basis, town officials said Friday.
The announcement comes two weeks after the Dec. 14 tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, where a guman killed his mother before opening fire at the school, killing 20 children and six adults.

Bileau’s Flowers raises $1,908 for Because He Lives Ministries

WOONSOCKET – Bileau’s Flowers raised $1,908 for Because He Lives Ministries by raffling off a holiday gift basket this year.
Jeanne Bis, co-owner of the Diamond Hill Road flower shop, said the winning ticket-holder was Wayne Demers, who picked up his prize on Christmas Eve.
This marked the third consecutive season that Bis and Bileau’s co-owner Ralph Bileau raffled off a basket for the benefit of Because He Lives, raising more than $5,000 to date.

Storm leaves up to a foot of snow in southern NE

BOSTON (AP) — Weather watchers say up to a foot of snow fell in parts of southern New England as the latest winter storm moved through the Northeast.
The storm had ended in the region by Sunday morning and dry weather was expected for days, although strong winds may chill the bone.
Meteorologist Frank Nocera of the National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass., said six to 12 inches of snow fell from Saturday afternoon and overnight in Rhode Island, eastern Connecticut and eastern Massachusetts, including Foxboro where the New England Patriots play.
