WOONSOCKET â Police locked down the high school and voc-tech Thursday afternoon following a report of a student with a handgun.
According to Det. Capt. Edward J. Lee Jr., police received information that a 17-year-old old Woonsocket High School student may have brought a handgun onto school property. The high school and vocational school were immediately placed into lockdown.
WOONSOCKET â Citing surging deficits driven by deficient financial controls in the School Department, Fitch Ratings knocked down the cityâs bond rating four notches Wednesday from BBB- to BB-.
The move puts the cityâs $117 million portfolio of general obligation bonds in junk territory on the Fitch scale for the first time. The old rating was Fitchâs lowest investment grade.
âUnfortunately, itâs not something we didnât expect,â said Mayor Leo T. Fontaine. âClearly the pressure from the school departmentâs $10 million deficit was the last straw for Fitch.â
