WOONSOCKET — The City Council approved a proposed $129 million city budget plan early Tuesday morning but not before engaging in a pitched debate over a projected $6,375 savings for keeping the River Island Park ice rink closed next winter.
The ice rink's operation was ultimately retained in the 2012-13 spending plan but will now have to survive the state-appointed Budget Commission's final action on the city's budget in the coming days.
