Alleged gaming offenses earn trio Twin River bans

LINCOLN – A Twin River table game player was issued a permanent ejection for allegedly counting cards in violation of state table gaming rules following an incident at the casino early Saturday morning.

Lt. Wayne Bouthillette reported John A. Lemieux, 49, of Brockton, Mass., was issued the ejection after Twin River Security Capt. William Shepherd investigated the reported incident of card counting at 3:18 a.m. Saturday.

Autumnfest marshal gets ‘Grand’ salute

WOONSOCKET – They lauded Dave Richards for his years of service to the city’s annual Autunmfest Columbus Day weekend festival Tuesday evening at the annual Autumnfest Grand Marshal reception, but it was his initial surprise behind being named for the tribute that still had him smiling.

Richards, the owner of WOON Radio and who has been involved in Autumnfest since the very first event at World War II Veterans Memorial State Park 35 years ago this year, helped with the selection of many other grand marshals over the years.

Local residents are struggling to deal with shutdown of most federal government functions

A stalemate in Congress that caused a government shutdown Tuesday for the first time in 17 years came as no surprise for Woonsocket auto mechanic Paul Morin.

“I stayed up and watched the entire thing and, personally, I’m with the Republicans on this one because I believe Obamacare will hurt the country,” Morin says. “Of course I’m upset that we have the first government shutdown in nearly two decades, but I’m more upset the Democrats didn’t do more to negotiate with the Republicans to avert this.”
