Woonsocket nurse showing nation her senior wellness program

WOONSOCKET – Weighing well over 250 pounds, Ella came to the Woonsocket Senior Center to attend a Senior Services Inc. weight loss class in hopes of shedding a few pounds before surgery to repair her knees.

She enrolled in a chair exercise class offered as part of the Senior Wellness program at the center, and within a few short weeks lost more than 50 pounds and enough weight to go ahead with her surgery.

Belknap exits contest; leaves council primary moot

WOONSOCKET – The city’s Oct. 8 primary is no longer a factor in the City Council race after one of the 15 candidates vying for election to the seven-member panel, Jeffrey P. Belknap, filed a letter with the Board of Canvassers announcing his withdrawal.

Estelle Corriveau, manager of the Board of Canvassers, said the decision by Belknap will not remove his name from the list of 15 candidates for City Council on the Oct. 8 ballot, but it does eliminate him from moving forward to the Nov. 5 city election ballot.

City announces polling locations for Tuesday’s primary balloting

WOONSOCKET – City voters will use 11 polling locations when voting in Tuesday’s nonpartisan primary for local elected office, according to Estelle Corriveau, manager of the Board of Canvassers.

The ballot for the primary is highlighted by a four-candidate contest for mayor and will also include a listing of 15 candidates for City Council. The withdrawal of council candidate Jeffrey P. Belknap this week will send all 14 remaining council candidates onto the ballot for the Nov. 5 city election, she said.

Fontaine unveils city recovery plans
