How Cobble Rock toppled in 1977 still unknown

WOONSOCKET – It’s an old story now, the tale of the city’s once famous Cobble Rock, but also one that continues to spark fond feelings of times gone by among those who remember it.
That is how Paul Durand, 64, of Crepeau Court was feeling while visiting the site of Cobble Rock in the city’s Fairmount woods during unseasonable warm weather on Wednesday.
A number of trees have been cut down near the historic spot at the North Smithfield town line and a new radio tower stands in the field bordering it, behind the Saint Antoine Residence off Rhodes Avenue.

KING JACE REVEALED!

The infamous King Jace has been revealed: John Gregory, president of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, is King Jace 2013. His Queen: Sandy Paul, center, who did the unveiling at The Elks Hall during the festivities Saturday night along with her court, princesses Kayla Guilbault, left, and Jo-Ann Maurice. Correct guesses to his identity were entered into a split the pot drawing and the winner was Sally Brett.

Fire closes Wally's Market

Woonsocket firefighters responded to a fire at 198 Front St., which houses Wally's Market and five apartments above it, on Friday just after 5:00 p.m. The fire started between the market's ceiling and the second floor and was confined to that area, according to Deputy Fire Chief Paul Shatraw. The fire displaced the residents of two apartments and the market is closed through the weekend.
