WOONSOCKET – After projecting that the city would incur a growing deficit on track to reach $95 million by 2017 the Budget Commission yesterday endorsed a still-sketchy, five-year plan to crawl back into the black, mainly through supplemental taxes, changes in union contracts and cuts in pension and other retirement benefits.

Festivities took place at two locations with shuttle service bringing partygoers to and from each site —St. Ann's Art's and Cultural Center, where the crowds were entertained by Bob Leonard's Slippery Sneakers Band, a local zydeco band who has been entertaining at the Woonsocket Mardi Gras for many years, and the Elks Hall, where Jeff Gamache and his orchestra entertained the crowd. Gamache has been a local entertainer for many years including at the Woonsocket Autumnfest.
