Victim of Social Ocean Diving Accident wins new trial

WOONSOCKET – A Superior Court judge has granted a new trial to a city man who was paralyzed after diving into the now-defunct “Social Ocean” in 2008.

Associate Justice Susan McGuirl threw out a 2011 jury verdict absolving the state of liability in causing Brett Roy’s injuries, saying she could not agree with the decision.

Woonsocket, Burrillville police charge six in home invasions

WOONSOCKET – Five men and a juvenile male have been arrested in connection with two home invasions – one in Burrillville and one on Park Avenue – in which marijuana was stolen this month. An arrest warrant has also been obtained for a sixth man.
In custody are Kyeme Gallagher, 22, of 20 Bell St.; Charles Welch, 23, of 97 Roberts St.; Cyril Delgado, 19, of 97 Roberts St.; Andrew Perry, 21, of 90 Girard Ave., Newport; and Randy Santana, 21, of 482 Park Ave., and a 17-year-old male from the city.
