Demolition of fire-ravaged building gets held up

UXBRIDGE – The fire-ravaged Bank Building on South Main Street will be demolished, but when the wrecking ball starts swinging will all depend on the property owner next door to the building.

Fire Chief William T. Kessler said Monday that demolition of the 118-year-old three-story late Victorian-style building at 32 South Main St., which was gutted by a massive fire last Thursday, was scheduled to take place Saturday until a neighboring abutter and business -Keegan Construction - intervened and retained legal counsel relative to concerns about how the demolition might impact its property.

Wrong-way driver was wanted man

LINCOLN – The wrong-way driver who caused a crash in which he and two passengers in another car perished on Route 146 Sunday was the target of an active arrest warrant for failure to answer charges of driving without a license, court records say.

A District Court judge had issued the bench warrant for Aldo M. Almanzar, 39, when he failed to appear for arraignment on North Smithfield police charges of driving without a license on Feb. 26.

LINCOLN – A local man is facing homicide charges in connection with the execution-style shooting death of a 23-year-old man in Avon, Mass. nearly two years ago.
Willie Wilkerson, 27, of 1200 Lonsdale Ave., was arraigned in District Court Monday on charges of being a fugitive from justice in Massachusetts.
Wilkerson was arrested by a multi-agency task force on a homicide warrant issued by the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, according to Major Todd Catlow, commander of detectives for the Rhode Island State Police.
