The Lion Roars

August 27, 2013

It was a beautiful evening in Monument Square Tuesday as another 'monument' begins to take shape with the ace crew of Al Beauparlant, Steve Casey, Jim Carey and Mike Dubois hoisting a 300 lb. tub into position some 68 feet above the streets near the Stadium Theatre. After that monstrosity was in place, which will hold some 1200 lbs. of water this Thursday, colorful flags were added high atop the scaffolding. But as the clear blue sky turned to night, a huge banner bearing a roaring lion was unfurled before a small crowd of onlookers.

Lincoln High’s newest Lions ‘Roar’

August 25, 2013

LINCOLN – Starting out as a freshman student in high school can be much easier if there are a few familiar faces at the school when the first day of school arrives.

That’s why Lincoln High School Principal Kevin McNamara, staff members of the school and upperclassmen were out in the school’s parking lot on Wednesday for the annual Freshmen Roar night.

Freshmen and their parents could meet the students’ teachers, take a tour of the high school, and also sign up for extracurricular activities such as sports or afterschool clubs.

whopping $170,000 in delinquent fines owed by
the owners of more than a dozen blighted, abandoned
properties in town.

“We’re seeing a rise in these abandoned, vacant
properties, where the windows are broken and boarded
up and the lawns and yards are unkempt and overgrown,”
said William Walsh, the town’s code enforcement
officer. “They’ve become blighted areas that are having
a real impact on property values.”

WOONSOCKET – During the height of flu season in 2011, Denneese Seale was a weary, sleep-deprived woman.

The mother of four from Dawn Boulevard was doing her best to tend to a wave of upper respiratory illness sweeping through her family. She was staying up late and repeatedly invoking the germ-control mantra: “Cough into your elbow! Cough into your elbow!”

There had to be a better way.
