WOONSOCKET â€” The emergency room at Landmark Medical Center was closed Friday afternoon after pepper spray used by police during an incident in the hospital entered the buildingâ€™s ventilation system.
â€śThis afternoon, an incident occurred in our emergency room that required the response of the Woonsocket Police Department,â€ť hospital officials said in a statement issued early Friday evening. â€śDuring their response, pepper spray was utilized in our emergency room area to subdue an individual. Unfortunately, the pepper spray was pulled into the emergency roomâ€™s ventilation system.â€ť
WOONSOCKET â€“ Autumnfest Steering Committee Chairman Tim Paul is back in his pre-Autumnfest zone and feeling it.
The 35th edition of the cityâ€™s annual festival is coming up fast on Columbus Day weekend, and Paul said Friday that usually means he has started feeling the pressure of getting all the arrangements completed for yet another great Autumnfest.
â€śEvery August you feel the stress, then in September it is the worries,â€ť Paul said.
PROVIDENCE â€“ Cumberland Rep. Karen MacBeth (D-Dist. 52, Cumberland), a member of the House Government Oversight Committee that is currently investigating the 38 Studios debacle, says she wants the panel to issue subpoenas to learn how the Economic Development Corporationâ€™s (EDC) loan guarantee program went so wrong.
â€śWe can follow the money a lot more closely than we are able to with the documents we have,â€ť MacBeth told The Times Friday. â€śWho was on the payroll? People made lots of money on this business, I believe, fully knowing that it wasnâ€™t going to make it.
