Prime Healthcare submits application to buy Landmark

WOONSOCKET — A California-based hospital group’s bid to acquire Landmark Medical Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island inched forward yesterday as the company delivered its application to purchase the hospitals to state regulators under the Hospital Conversions Act.
State Health Director Michael Fine and Attorney General Peter Kilmartin now have 30 days to determine whether the voluminous amount of paperwork tendered by Prime Healthcare Services is complete.

WOONSOCKET – If the New Year has been rung in, that can only mean one thing: Fat Tuesday is around the corner, and it’s time to start looking for the Queen of Mardi Gras 2013.
The quest for the crown is officially on, according to the Northern Rhode Island Council on the Arts, which is marking the 19th anniversary of Woonsocket Mardis Gras this year.

PROVIDENCE – The 2013 General Assembly session began Tuesday with leaders of both chambers emphasizing the importance of turning Rhode Island’s ailing economy around and improving its business climate.

Democratic officials: Fiscal 'cliff' deal reached

WASHINGTON — Racing the clock, the White House sealed a New Year's Eve accord with Senate Republicans late Monday to neutralize across-the-board tax increases and spending cuts in government programs due to take effect at midnight, according to administration and Democratic officials.
Under the deal, taxes would remain steady for the middle class and rise at incomes over $400,000 for individuals and $450,000 for couples — levels higher than President Barack Obama had campaigned for in his successful drive for a second term in office.
