The man behind the curtain

BURRILLVILLE -- The Assembly Theater’s still serving veteran administrator and chief technical advisor, 91-year-old George L. Surbuts has done it all over the past 65 years from working in the theater’s projection booth in the 1940s to handling stage productions to cleaning and maintenance.

He even played a small part in the Village Players’ production of “Harvey,” although he admits acting was never his forte and that he was always more comfortable working behind the stage than on it.
