Cumberland High shuttered by burst pipe

CUMBERLAND – Classes were expected to resume today at Cumberland High School, which was closed Monday after a pipe that heats a section of the building froze and ruptured Saturday, flooding at least 12 classrooms on three floors with water, school officials said.

The mishap occurred around 12:30 p.m. and involved an isolated heating pump drive coupler, which causes water to flow through a pipe that heats a section of the school.

Assault charge may rise to murder with Salvi's death

WOONSOCKET – Catherine Salvi’s boyfriend could be charged with her murder before the end of the week, depending on the results of her autopsy, law enforcement sources say.

Emmanuel “Manny” Algaria, 21, is charged with felony domestic assault after he allegedly attacked Salvi more than three weeks ago. He’s due back in court on Friday for a previously scheduled hearing.

Catherine Salvi, 24, loses battle for life after brutal domestic assault

WOONSOCKET – Catherine Salvi, 24, has died after being brutally attacked by her boyfriend on Dec. 13.

Family members said Salvi had been declared brain dead by doctors at Rhode Island Hospital last week.

Woonsocket police are now expected to upgrade the charges against Emmanuel Algaria, 21, from felony domestic assault to homicide.

Algaria has been held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions since the attack.
