Keep it civil, Fox advises General Assembly on opening day

PROVIDENCE — Acknowledging that last year’s House session “did not end nice,” with members taking personal shots at one another over various issues, House Speaker Gordon Fox gaveled the 2014 session open with a call to “make this about the people.”

“Things can not be worked out in this chamber if it gets personal,” Fox said. “If you lash out today, maybe it feels good, but ultimately it does not solve problems.

Brown water at schools as some seeing red

WOONSOCKET – Members of the City Council were stunned when a parent showed up in City Hall Monday with two plastic bottles of brown murky water she says she poured from the taps at the Woonsocket Middle School complex.

“I couldn’t believe what I was looking at,” said City Council President Albert G. Brien. “It was a total surprise.”
