WOONSOCKET â In September 2013, Jose Anibal Santiago pled guilty to charges stemming from his role as the getaway driver in a fatal robbery outside an East Woonsocket bank that triggered a two-year-long battle over the death penalty.
Now he wants to change his mind.
Through his lawyer, Santiago, 37, has filed papers with the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston seeking to withdraw his guilty plea. He contends U.S. District Judge William E. Smith in Providence failed to properly inform him of the full implications of his plea before he was sentenced.
Woody Allen directs a scene for his upcoming movie on Main St. in downtown Pawtucket Thursday on morning. Main St. and High St. were closed for a time while several scenes were filmed for the new movie, as yet untitled, before Allen and company moved to 207 Wickenden St. in Providence for filming shot the Coffee Exchange.

PROVIDENCE â Over the objections of state prosecutors, a Superior Court judge ruled Wednesday that Raymond D. âBeaverâ Tempest Jr. may argue that he was wrongfully convicted of murder on the strength of false testimony resulting from the unlawful manipulation of witnesses by Woonsocket police officers.

WOONSOCKET â Executives of Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers, which includes The Call and The Times of Pawtucket, announced that longtime newspaper professional Paul V. Palange has joined the staff as general manager and director of advertising for the newspapers.
WOONSOCKET â Longtime city parks and recreation worker David P. Ayotte has been suspended without pay following his indictment on felony gambling charges last Friday, officials said.
City Solicitor Michael Marcello said Ayotte would be fired if he is convicted of a felony.
BURRILLVILLE â U.S. Senator Jack Reed Friday joined the Daniele Inc. owners - brothers Davide and Stefano Dukcevich - for a discussion on growing Rhode Islandâs food economy and a âhard hatâ tour of Danieleâs new $60 million state-of-the-art charcuterie factory.
The facility, which is nearing completion, will be the largest and most modern plant of its kind in the world.
WOONSOCKET â Tatyana Sepulveda, a sophomore at Woonsocket High School, has decided to add another extracurricular activity to her workload this year: the Miss Rhode Island Teen USA pageant.
Sepulveda, 15, was encouraged to compete in the pageant by her mother, who gathered information about the competition online. She consequently applied as a contestant two weeks ago, and was chosen to participate in the statewide event after undergoing the selection process.
