WOONSOCKET â Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt is ramping up her fight against urban blight by hiring another housing inspector to help the Building Department tackle the more than 200 abandoned and eyesore properties throughout the city.
The deadline for candidates to submit applications for the job is today, and Baldelli-Hunt says she hopes to have the $670- to $736-a week job filled by Oct. 1.
BURRILLVILLE â During a ceremony marked by a moment of silence for the latest Rhode Islander killed in a faraway conflict, members of Burrillvilleâs veteran community on Sunday dedicated Bridge #672 on Route 102 in the memory of town residents James A. Blanchard and Allan B. McCutcheon â members of the Armyâs 4th Infantry Division who died in Vietnam in March of 1967.

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Scott Goodwin had one of those days on Saturday that animal control officers sometimes have – the discovery of an unexpected creature in a place it shouldn’t be.
Goodwin received a call from the police department about a long snake at a home on Main Street in Slatersville on Saturday, and went over to talk with the elderly woman who had discovered it at around 3 p.m.
The resident said she had seen the snake outside sunning itself near her air conditioning unit, so Goodwin went to take a look.
NORTHBRIDGE — The kindness and generosity of the community was on display Saturday, as upwards of 200 runners and walkers took to the streets, uniting together for the Luke’s Run/Walk 5K and Family Fun fundraiser to benefit Luke Wiegers, an 11-month-old boy who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called acute myeloid leukemia.
PROVIDENCE â CVS Health has agreed to pay $450,000 to the federal government to settle allegations that several of its Rhode Island retail pharmacies filled forged and invalid painkiller prescriptions.
The agreement announced Monday is the culmination of a two-year investigation by U.S. Attorney Peter Neronhaâs office and the Drug Enforcement Administrationâs Office of Diversion Control into several of the Woonsocket-based CVSâs retail pharmacy locations.
