Clippers lose league opener to St. Raphael

December 8, 2010

CUMBERLAND – Until about the midway point of Wednesday night’s Division I opener against host Cumberland, nothing seemed to fall for Diandra DaRosa.
But once the St. Raphael Academy sophomore got her shooting touch, there was no stopping her.
The talented point guard, who starred for Tolman last year, tossed in a game-high 29 points, including 22 in the second half as the Saints earned their first league win in nearly two years with a 61-51 victory over the Clippers at the Wellness Center.

Boston College survives PC's late rally

December 8, 2010

NEWTON, Mass. – For Providence College, it was a game that shouldn’t have come down to a close, but no cigar half-court heave by Vincent Council as the final horn sounded.
Closing hard and fast on Boston College in the final five minutes does not make up for 35 minutes of play in which PC struggled to generate any sort of traction on either end of the floor. The Eagles, who led 52-36 early in the second half and by a 72-60 count with 7:30 to play, tried to give the Friars an early Christmas present but were able to escape with an 88-86 win at Conte Forum Wednesday night.

Woonsocket girls host Bay View in Thursday's D-I opener

December 8, 2010

WOONSOCKET – After losing several valuable starters from last year’s state championship squad, Woonsocket High coach George Coderre considers this season a rebuilding year for his Division I squad and he’s not quite sure how his Villa Novans will respond against the upper-echelon of teams.
In terms of league-openers, Coderre couldn’t have asked for a better way to determine the makeup of his players when they take to the courts tonight. Facing the Villa Novans at Savaria Gymasium will be perennial power Bay View Academy.
