Ponaganset finishes up with solid victory

November 24, 2011

FOSTER -- Here’s a strange, but true fact: heading into its Thanksgiving Day duel with Burrillville, Ponaganset had lost its last four games, and seven of its last eight, at home on The Reservation.
But the Chieftains silenced their home woes and a four-game losing streak on Thursday by riding a solid effort from their senior class to a 27-0 victory over the Broncos before a large gathering.

WOONOCKET – Chris Skurka had no intention on letting up.
Despite a more important playoff game early next week, the Cumberland High coach planned to have his red-hot squad go full throttle against Woonsocket in their annual Thanksgiving Day contest.
He lied. Well, sort of.
The Clippers scored four times in the first quarter, found the end zone again in the second quarter and gave the reserves some ample playing time after halftime in cruising to a 35-6 rout of the Villa Novans on Thursday morning.

CENTRAL FALLS – There was no slippage or signs of letup. For playoff-bound Central Falls, it was simply full speed ahead.
Thursday’s 34-0 holiday win against Lincoln High was just what C.F. head coach Mo Jackson was looking for. His Warriors raced to a commanding 27-0 halftime lead behind three touchdown passes from quarterback Brandon Canuto, who completed 9-of-11 passes for 247 yards.

SCITUATE --- Scituate made it interesting and competitive for a full quarter, but the winless Spartans ended up becoming nothing more than a minor speed bump in North Smithfield’s drive to the Division IV regular-season title.
The visiting Northmen erased a first-quarter deficit by erupting for 28 second-quarter points and cruising to a 60-13 rout at Caito Field that iced the squad’s first regular-season championship in its 44-year existence.
