A note to Mount St. Charles Academy hockey fans: Don’t scrap those plans to watch the Mounties play at Fenway Park just yet.
In what’s been a roller coaster day that began with an online report from a Boston media outlet stating that Boston College High, not the Mounties, would play Catholic Memorial in a high school showdown on Jan. 14 at the home of the Boston Red Sox, Mount coach Dave Belisle received a bit of good news late Thursday night.
WOONSOCKET — Mount St. Charles brought out its best soccer on Thursday afternoon, and in the process, delivered its first playoff victory in six years.
Senior striker Tim Stein scored a pair of goals and the Mounties’ defense turned in one of its finest performances of the season to help pave the way for a 4-0 victory over Coventry in their Division II preliminary-round matchup on the Mounties’ pitch.
