HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Cumberland improves to 6-0

WOONSOCKET — Cumberland High scored three times in the opening period and received a brilliant 44-save performance from netminder Pat Noke in a 5-2 victory over Toll Gate High on Friday night at Adelard Arena.
The Clippers, who are 6-0 in Division II-North action, saw Toll Gate battle back from a 3-0 deficit with a pair of goals, but they ended any hopes of a Titans comeback by scoring a pair of empty-net goals in the final 30 seconds of the games.

State champions, CALL all-stars highlight 2011

High school state championship teams and athletes, the Cumberland American Little League all-star team’s venture to the Little League World Series, and a handful of remarkable milestones were among 2011’s many sports highlights in the Woonsocket Call area.
The year began with another memorable winter season that saw Mount St. Charles cap it by defending their state championships in both boys’ and girls’ hockey.
