District IV Little League race hard to call

June 27, 2011

In 2009, Lincoln captured the District IV and State All-Star Tournaments and then came one win away from Williamsport, Pa. for the Little League World Series after an 11-7 loss to Peabody (Mass.) Western in the New England Region finals.
Last year it was a talented bunch of players from Cumberland National that made the headlines with a nearly identical route of its neighbor. CNLL dominated its foes during the districts, did the same in the state tourney and then fell a run short, a 1-0 setback to Fairfield (Conn.) American in the title game, for a trip to the World Series.

PAWTUCKET --- Toka Kahn-Clary is on the doorstep of a berth on the 2012 U.S. Olympic boxing team.
The 19-year-old Pawtucket fighter sewed up one of the eight spots in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials by copping a silver medal at the USA Boxing National Championships late last week at the Olympic Training Center’s Sports Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Competing in a competitive 132-pound division, Kahn-Clary needed just two victories to clinch a berth in the Team Trials, which will be held from July 31-Aug. 6 at the Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, Ala.
