Believe it or not, as far-flung as this may sound, there was a time when this corner believed Bobby Valentine would somehow be granted a stay of execution and return as manager of the Red Sox next season.

LINCOLN – Dick Ryan knows what a special talent he has in Emily Bouthillette, hence why the Lincoln High softball coach isn’t afraid to spread the word regarding a player that Ryan feels is flying somewhat “under the radar.”
October 2nd
CUMBERLAND — Ever since North Smithfield lost its season-opening match to Cumberland, a five-set defeat that saw the Clippers clock the Northmen in the final game, 15-3, the Northmen have eagerly awaited their rematch with the Clippers and circled the date on their calendars.
It certainly showed on Tuesday night.
October 1st
BURRILLVILLE -- Back on Thursday, Sept. 20, Burrillville High needed overtime to dispatch Division II rival Cumberland, 1-0, at its Tucker Field home.
According to senior tri-captain Laura Hauser, the Broncos didn’t want to go to an extra session again.
“Our game plan was to stop their drives from going through because they did a pretty good job of that the first time,” Hauser said of the squads’ second meeting on Monday afternoon. “Their goalie (senior Elizabeth Alberg) also is pretty fast, so we needed to work her, catch her off-balance.”
