Defensive-minded PC puts away Holy Cross

PROVIDENCE — Dating back several seasons, the very idea of placing Providence College and “defense” in the same sentence resulted in snickering along with several knee slaps.
In 2012, Ed Cooley’s PC Friars are getting after it in such ferocious fashion that the opposition is having a hard time getting off the canvas. More punishment was meted out Tuesday as Providence stomped on Holy Cross, 61-42, before a rather subdued crowd, which was announced at 4,596.

Football semifinals move to Wednesday night

On the surface, the decision to push back the entire slate of R.I. semifinal-round playoff games to Wednesday seems as simple as the quarterback receiving the snap.
Seven of the eight games on the docket were already based at venues where light fixtures are part of the ambiance. The lone exception: Woonsocket’s Barry Field.
However, thanks to Villa Novans athletic director George Nasuti obtaining portable lights, the situation was remedied.

Ryan Lavarnway to be featured at PawSox' Christmas Party

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Red Sox will host their Annual Christmas Party at McCoy Stadium on Saturday, December 8 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. The PawSox’ Christmas Party is a free event open to fans of all ages. Boston Red Sox catcher Ryan Lavarnway will make a special appearance along with two members of the PawSox Governors’ Cup championship, infielder Tony Thomas and outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker.
