BRISTOL — When Burrillville High senior tri-captain Laura Hauser went home after school to grab her uniform Monday afternoon, there was a strange addition next to her jersey, laying right there on her bed.
“It was about 2:30, and I found a lucky penny, with the head up,” she explained. “My mom said she didn't have any idea how it got there. I almost walked out of the house without it; I got to my car, then forgot I didn't have it, so I turned around and raced back to get it.
“I mean, I'm a superstitious person,” she added.
For the eight football teams that succeeded in qualifying for the Division II postseason, the objective is crystal clear – survive to play the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.
Of the three local participants, only one team is guaranteed a coveted spot in the semifinals. Woonsocket and St. Raphael will lock helmets in a quarterfinal-round clash at Pariseau Field come 6 o’clock Saturday night. Meanwhile, Cumberland rolls out the welcome mat for Westerly, which ventures to Tucker Field Friday.
