Gardner suffers tough loss in return to Twin River

May 25, 2012

LINCOLN — The large gathering of Woonsocket fans who drove down Route 146 to watch one of their own, super middleweight Joe Gardner, take on Julio Garcia on Thursday night at the Twin River Event Center received a low blow at what they witnessed in the four-round fight.
And speaking of low blows, that turned out to be the theme of the final three rounds. Garcia dealt them, Gardner received them, and the end result was an unpopular unanimous-decision victory by Garcia (by 40-34, 39-35, 39-35 scores) that left Gardner, his corner, and his many supporters seething.

Lincoln nips SRA for Div. I playoff berth

There would be no tomorrow for one team, nor would any partial credit be awarded as the Lions and Saints entered this pivotal final game of the regular season sporting identical 7-10 league records.

“Hopefully it won’t be more than a few days; a lot of guys up there are out,” noted McDonald Friday prior to going 0-for-1 with a sacrifice fly while playing five innings in left field for the PawSox.
