Newcomer Stewart helps PawSox stop bleeding

June 27, 2012

PAWTUCKET — The newest member of the Pawtucket Red Sox played a major role in snapping the team’s third-longest losing streak in club history on Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium.
Starting pitcher Zach Stewart, who was acquired by the Boston Red Sox in Sunday’s trade with the Chicago White Sox for Kevin Youkilis, turned in a splendid outing to help the PawSox defeat the Charlotte Knights, 5-1, and grab their first victory after nine straight losses.

PawSox place four on I.L. All-Star team

PAWTUCKET — Mauro Gomez earned a spot on the International League all-star team last season, the third straight year he earned a midseason honor.
Ryan Lavarnway was a Carolina League all-star in 2010, and Pedro Ciriaco picked up his last minor-league all-star honor three years ago in the Southern League.
That being said, when was the last time Justin Germano, the fourth member of the Pawtucket Red Sox named to the I.L.’s all-star team early Wednesday afternoon, selected to a squad?
“(The) 2002 (season) was my one and only,” he said with a smile. “It’s been a while.”
