LINCOLN — The last time local fight fans saw Thomas Falowo in action, they were in an uproar over the split decision victory awarded to his opponent, Samuel Clarkson of Cedar Hill, Texas.
In that middleweight fight back on May 24 at Twin River, Falowo not only ruled four of the six rounds, but he also delivered a first-round knockdown.
And while Clarkson ended the night looking like he’d tussled in a 12-round slugfest, Falowo had barely a scratch on him.
PAWTUCKET — The sight of Jose Iglesias and J.C. Linares engaging in playful banter in their native tongue often leads to one or both players breaking out into mischievous smiles. Usually the exchange is often loud enough that everyone in the PawSox clubhouse is aware that Iglesias and Linares are up to their old tricks.
Then again, not everyone can understand what is actually being discussed, so it’s like Iglesias and Linares are the only ones in the room, operating in a universe that only a select few have the privilege of completely understanding.
BURRILLVILLE – Burrillville found the perfect way to cap Monday night’s dedication ceremonies of the Richard “Dick” Peck Fields at Sherman Park – by winning the District IV Major Division championship.
Matt Schiffman’s home run to left field with one out in the top of the fifth inning and the excellent two-hit pitching of starter Josh DiChiaro and reliever Jason Cabral were the keys to a well-played 1-0 triumph over Lincoln and the team’s first district title since 2002 before a standing-room-only gathering.
Burrillville’s Josh Dichario, center (15), makes his team pretty happy after hitting a grand slam during the third inning of last Wednesday’s game against Bernon. Burrillville and Lincoln will square off for District IV supremecy Monday night at Sherman Park with the winner advancing to next weekend’s state tournament, which will take place at Randy Hien Field in Lincoln. Burrillville and Lincoln were the only two teams in the district to compile undefeated records during pool play, each squad posting identical 4-0 records.
We’ll guess that Kevin Youkilis steps into the batter’s box at Fenway Park around 7:13 Monday night — three minutes after Red Sox pitcher Aaron Cook rocks back and issues the first offering of the game.
MIDDLETOWN — The ever-elusive progress of tracking improvement in one’s golf game … it’s actually not that difficult a chore for Cumberland native son Jamison Randall.
