Late goal helps Warwick Vets skate past Woonsocket

December 13, 2013

WOONSOCKET — Head coach Nathan Arruda wants desperately to rekindle pride and interest in Woonsocket High hockey, as he – in the early 2000s – represented the program himself.
As far as he’s concerned, the young, inexperienced Villa Novans did just that on Friday night at Adelard Arena, despite dropping a tough 3-2 decision in their home opener.
In the end, with the score knotted at 2-2, freshman Greg Fontaine knocked in a power-play goal with only 1:54 remaining in regulation to give the Hurricanes the one-goal victory.

Red Sox confident next PawSox manager will be in place by Christmas

PAWTUCKET — While the Red Sox are expressing confidence that the search to find the next PawSox manager will be wrapped up by Christmas, don’t be surprised if official word filters out before the holidays.

Why the organization has nothing to announce at this time is likely two-fold. While all signs point to current Double-A skipper Kevin Boles moving to the front lines of the minor-league system, the 38-year-old is presently coaching a winter league team in Venezuela, Bravos de Margarita.
