PROVIDENCE â North Smithfieldâs dream season remains very much alive.
The latest chapter to the on-going hit series âMarch of the Undefeatedâ took place Sunday night with fifth-seeded North Smithfield fighting tooth and nail to secure a 58-50 win against No. 13 seed Prout in the R.I. open state tournament quarterfinals at Providence Collegeâs Alumni Hall. Now 26-0, North Smithfield heads to URIâs Ryan Center Friday night for a semifinal-round contest against Classical, the top seed in the 16-team tournament.
NEWPORT --- The Rogers/Tiverton/Rocky Hill co-op team scored three goals in the last period, including the go-ahead score with 43 seconds left in the game, late Saturday night to net a 4-2 triumph over Cumberland at the St. Georgeâs skating facility and force a third game in their Division II best-of-three quarterfinal-round series.
NORTH SMITHFIELD â While senior guard and tri-captain Walker Strick and his elated North Smithfield High teammates celebrated their first-ever state hoop championship on the Pizzitola Center floor last Sunday afternoon, head coach T.J. Ciolfi scrambled to find someone to film the happenings.
It didn't take long for him to see Keila Strick, senior tri-captain of the Northmen's girls squad. He immediately issued her his camera, and she went to work.
NORTH SMITHFIELD â Confident ⊠but not cocky.
Cool customers ⊠but not too cool for school.
Notoriety is a natural byproduct of winning, especially when victories are strung, out one after another, without a blemish, like a string of pearls. Yet as North Smithfield head coach T.J. Ciolfi will attest, the wave of attention for their once-in-a-lifetime season hasnât changed his Northmen in the slightest.
