Cumberland gets an 'A' for big softball win over N.S.

CUMBERLAND — The names have changed, but the results have stayed the same.
A year after cruising through the District IV ranks, as well as the best teams the rest of Rhode Island had to offer, en route to its second straight Major Division state championship, Cumberland’s formidable ‘A’ team picked up where it left off by earning its third mercy-rule victory in as many games before a large gathering at Diamond Hill Park.

PAWTUCKET – Will Middlebrooks spoke so softly that it felt as if the PawSox clubhouse had been transformed into a church.

The struggling third baseman didn’t attempt to mask his disappointment regarding a season that has hardly gone according to plan. For the moment, finding a silver lining in the fact that he was sent down is an impossible endeavor.
