Northmen make quick work of PCD

October 13, 2012

NORTH SMITHFIELD — From top to bottom, this was North Smithfield’s best performance of the season.
Buoyed by Mike Cicerone’s first-ever start at quarterback and a defense that kept the opposition in check, North Smithfield sailed to a convincing 57-8 margin against the PCD Co-op juggernaut Saturday afternoon. The Northmen will have plenty of time to savor the lop-sided triumph as the team’s next game isn’t until Friday, Nov. 2 at Smithfield.

He claimed he had good reason.
“You know, we’ve had two really good wins this year; the first one against Pilgrim, and the second against Tiverton,” he elaborated. “They’re both very strong teams, and when we play those types of teams, we do very well. In big games, we step it up a couple of notches.

Villa Novans girls' soccer team bows to Tolman, 6-2

October 10, 2012

WOONSOCKET -- Back on Friday, Sept. 14, Tolman High senior Ashley Clark registered five goals in a rather easy 9-1 thumping of Woonsocket at the McKinnon-Alves Complex.
She failed in her attempt to repeat that feat during the two teams’ Division III-A rematch at Barry Field on rainy Wednesday afternoon.
Still, head coach Bel Pereira didn’t mind a bit; why would he? Clark netted four tallies and senior defender Amber Duhamel did a superb job of defending the Villa Novans’ stellar senior quad-captain and striker Krislyn Godin in the Tigers’ 6-2 triumph.
