PROVIDENCE – There’s never too little to write about when it comes to the Blackstone Valley region and the indoor track & field state championships. 
 
Saturday’s meet at the Providence Career & Technical Academy field house figures to be no exception with the chase for first-place finishes and berths in the New Englands beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the field events. The running events will commence at noontime.

WOONSOCKET – After two shaky periods on Friday night where nothing seemed to go Cumberland’s way, the Clippers rose to the occasion at a most opportune time and in the process succeeded in keeping their perfect league record intact.

KINGSTON —Rhode Island guards Jarvis Garrett and Jared Terrell should no longer carry the label of “freshmen.”
 
While technically the guards are classified as such until the spring semester ends in May, when it comes to basketball, that status shouldn’t be the first word in any conversation about the pair for the rest of the season.

Technically, Brad Stevens became the head coach of the Boston Celtics in July 2013.

Unofficially, Stevens is still waiting for his ship to come in, i.e. a legit chance to put his stamp on a rebuilding project that for all intents and purposes is still going through the spin cycle – with no apparent end in sight.

KINGSTON — The buzzword when Dan Hurley took over as Rhode Island  basketball coach nearly three years ago was culture.

Even though the Rams struggled to win games in Hurley's first two seasons, a winning culture was in the midst of being developed.

On Wednesday night, against rival UMass which has ruined URI's NCAA Tournament chances four times in the last decade, the Rams cemented that culture.
