PAWTUCKET – About a week ago, Daniel Bard and Andrew Miller went out for dinner in Boston. Sure, it was a prime opportunity for two good and longtime friends to catch up, yet the time spent between these two former University of North Carolina teammates boiled down to one particular subject matter.

Lincoln holds off EWLL for District IV victory

WOONSOCKET -- While a few East Woonsocket Little League officials re-manicured Hartnett Field after the late Monday afternoon downpour, Lincoln All-Stars’ head coach Frank Kelly quietly told a parent, “I’ll be happy just to get out of here with a win.”
His players more than obliged. Behind a stellar starting pitching performance by righty Joe Voccola, not to mention a pair of pinch-hit home runs, Lincoln posted a 6-4 triumph over East Woonsocket’s best in a R.I. District IV Tournament Pool A playoff tilt.

Panel starts paying the bills

WOONSOCKET — After receiving a quarter of its state aid nine months earlier than it normally would have, the Woonsocket Education Department will pay off more than $11 million in overdue vendor bills by the end of the week.
The state-appointed Budget Commission approved the first payout of $2.5 million to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island last week, and on Monday authorized another payment of more than $2.3 million to 11 more vendors. The recipients got first dibs on the cash because they were owed at least $100,000 longer than 90 days, said Schools Supt. Giovanna Donoyan.

Traffic stop nets arrest for slew of charges

WOONSOCKET — Police discovered an intoxicated motorist in the midst a violent argument with his girlfriend after a routine traffic stop on Diamond Hill Road early Saturday.
Antonio Pedro Fontes, 30, of 839 Social St., is facing eight infractions, including drunken driving, domestic assault, domestic kidnapping and possession of a controlled substance, the prescription painkiller oxycodone.

Summer J. Leavitt

WOONSOCKET - Summer J. Leavitt, 10, of Mendon Road, died on Tuesday, June 26th in Landmark Medical Center. Summer was the daughter of Donna Desrosiers. She was born on October 15, 2001 in Providence, RI.
Summer had attended Globe Park School. She is remembered as a happy girl and was a Special Olympian. Summer was also an organ donor.
In addition to her mother, Summer is survived by her birth mom, Carol Leavitt and Summer's siblings, Kenneth Leavitt, Eric Desrosiers, Sam Desrosiers, Kelly Melville and Kerry Saltvman, and her maternal grandmother, Bella St.Laurent of Blackstone.

Maria F. Cummings

PLATTSBURGH, NY - Maria F. (Tkacz) Cummings, 90, of the Vilas Home and formerly of Manville died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the CPVH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, NY.
Born in Manville on February 4, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Jan and Franciska (Gerula) Tkacz.
Maria graduated in 1941 from Bryant College. She worked for A.J. Vanasse Insurance Agency in Woonsocket for many years retiring in 1984.
Maria was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy, NY and formerly of St. James Church, Manville.
She enjoyed reading and loved time spent with her family.

Vincent J. Vito

WOONSOCKET - Vincent J. Vito, 100, of Bailey St., died July 2, 2012 in The Holiday Nursing Home, Lincoln. He was the husband of Eva D. (Gianco) Vito. Born in Providence, Vincent was the son of the late Carmine and Philomena (Calce) Vito.
He worked as an inspector of nurseries and woodlands for the Department of Environmental Management. Mr. Vito was a WWII Army Veteran.

Roland P. Aubin Sr.

NORTH SMITHFIELD - Roland P. Aubin Sr, 81, of St.Paul Street, died July 1, 2012 in Oakland Grove Health Care Center. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Alpherie and Robea (Tessier) Aubin.
Roland had worked as a Machine Operator at ITT Co, which became Triangle Wire Inc, for twenty seven years, retiring in 1996. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict while serving in the Army.

Thelma L. LeClair

July 2, 2012

NORTH SMITHFIELD - Thelma L. (Migneault) LeClair, 85, formerly of Quaker Highway, No. Smithfield, died June 30, 2012 in Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford, MA. She was the wife of the late Paul E. LeClair.
Born in Uxbridge, MA, she was the daughter of the late Alfred O. and Edith L. (Squires) Migneault.
Mrs. LeClair a homemaker, but had previously worked for Meade Textiles, Birch Hill Poultry and Poly Top Corp. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary, LeClair Kozlic Logan Bassett VFW Post #6342.

Patricia M. Renn

WOONSOCKET - Patricia M. Renn, 77, of Woonsocket, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at Landmark Medical Center.
Born and raised in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Viola E. (Klang) Smith. She was a resident of Woonsocket for many years.
Patricia was a graduate of the former West High School in Pawtucket, Class of 1952. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Dramatics from Emerson College in Boston with the Class of 1956.
