WOONSOCKET â State Sen. Roger A. Picard, of 764 Mendon Road, will run for re-election without an opponent and state representatives Lisa Baldelli-Hunt and Jon D. Brien both face primary elections for their seats as a result of the close of the General Assembly candidate nomination process on Friday.
WOONSOCKET â Jamal Lee saw the poster on a building at Bernon Park after playing softball with his adult league: the city was starting up a new recreational program for parents and children.
A few days later, the 38-year-old public health major at Rhode Island College was at Cass Park with his kids, swinging a badminton racket, making crafts, and having fun.
He liked it so much that he and his children, Alanah, 7, Olivia, 5, and Isaiah, 11, did it all over again two days later at Cold Spring Park.
MIDDLETOWN â The ever-elusive progress of tracking improvement in oneâs golf game ⊠itâs actually not that difficult a chore for Cumberland native son Jamison Randall.
WOONSOCKET â The city won't be getting any additional school funding from the state in the near future, at least not through legal action.
That was the outcome of a successful move by the state to block the city from winning a hearing on its school funding lawsuit in Superior Court.
Judge Nettie C. Vogel on Thursday issued a 31-page decision ruling in favor of the state's motion to dismiss the case filed by both the Woonsocket and Pawtucket school districts while noting earlier court decisions to the same effect.
CUMBERLAND â You donât have to be a parent to know that children donât get sick during business hours. And if they happen to, it isnât until todayâs busy parents come home from work that they invariably find out about it and start looking for medical attention.
And so Dr. Peter Yasigian was often needed in the office until seven or eight oâclock at night, tending to the usual afflictions of his pediatric caseload, from sore throats and sprains to coughs and croup.
There had to be a better way.

Charlie Blanchard, a seasoned pro whoâs certainly no stranger when it comes to making waves on the links during the summer, will take Cumberland native Jamison Randall in a 36-hole derby set for Friday at Wanumetonomy Golf &Country Club.
The first 18 holes of this stroke play format will take place beginning at 8 a.m. with the final 18 commencing shortly after 1 p.m.
WOONSOCKET â Lorenzo Ajavon was a typical 17-year-old who liked listening to music and shooting hoops with his friends at Globe Park.
He had no track record with the police and no known history of drug involvement, but within hours of leaving his home at 372 Robinson St. Sunday he ended up in the Blackstone River, dead.
How and why are questions that now vex the police.
âItâs a mystery,â said Detective Sgt. Matt Ryan, spokesman for the Woonsocket Police Department. âThis isnât like anything Iâve every encountered before.â
BURRILLVILLE â Itâs been more than a decade since the Burrillville Major Division all-star team concluded pool play in the District IV playoffs with an unblemished mark, but thatâs what the Blue & Gold did on Wednesday night at Sherman Park.
And Burrillville put on a pure hitting display in nailing down its fourth victory. The winners received monster games at the plate from their No. 2 and 3 batters in the lineup, Tyler Richards and Josh Dichario, and ended up amassing 23 hits in a 22-1 triumph over Bernon that was cut short after four innings by the mercy rule.
PAWTUCKET â The Boston Red Sox will send OF Carl Crawford to Pawtucket for an injury rehab assignment beginning Thursday night when the PawSox host the Buffalo Bisons at 7:05 pm at McCoy Stadium.
