Deputy Fire Chief Beausoleil calls it quits after 45 years

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Richard Nixon was president then, the Beatles were still a band, and men in space suits were still a few months shy of walking on the moon.
Deputy Fire Chief E. Craig Beausoleil joined the North Smithfield Fire Department in 1969, a time when the all-volunteer squad of good samaritans could hardly be called a department at all.
After 45 years on the job, Beausoleil will come to work for the last time Thursday, saying so-long to the only job he’s ever known as an adult.

CUMBERLAND- Roger J. Nolin, 89, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his entire family Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. He was the husband of Jeanne (Charpentier) Nolin.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Helen (Cote) Nolin. Mr. Nolin lived most of his life in Cumberland.
He was a carpenter for Cumberland Engineering for 33 years before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed gardening, camping, square dancing and spending time on Cape Cod. He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his family.

BELLINGHAM, MA- Elizabeth J. "Nunny" (Shaw) Haswell, 78, of Bellingham, MA passed peacefully at home away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Leslie Haswell.
Born in Framingham, MA on January 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Anthony) Shaw.

WOONSOCKET- Helen J. (Parenteau) Moison, 51, of Fairmount St., died December 22, 2012 in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of Russell R. Moison whom she married March 20, 1982.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of Norman E. and Gloria A. (Stone) Parenteau of Woonsocket.
Mrs. Moison worked as a CMT/CNA and Rehab Supervisor for Woonsocket Health Center for over twenty-five years. She enjoyed music, entertainment, travelling and especially all animals.

WOONSOCKET- Jean Paul Mandeville, 93, of Bernon St. Woonsocket died Monday, December 17, at home. He was the husband of the late Madeleine (Bourgault) Mandeville.
Born in Sorel, PQ. Canada, he was a son of the late Albert and Bernadette (Fleury) Mandeville. He was raised in Sorel and resided in Woonsocket since the early 1960s.
Mr. Mandeville was employed by DiPlacido Moving Company in Wrentham for over 30 years until retiring.

Cumberland art group opens show

WOONSOCKET —The Art Group from the Cumberland Public Library has opened a show of its members' art work in the upstairs gallery of the Museum of Work & Culture at Market Square.
Art Canestrari, an Art Group member and artist, said the show includes works from group members on a wide range of topics and natural scenes.
“We meet at the Cumberland Public Library on the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m.,” Canestrari, a retired dentist, said while setting up the exhibit with other members of the group.

Children’s smiles warm Santa’s heart this season

WOONSOCKET – Santa Claus was seated in his cabin at the mini-park near City Hall Thursday evening, chatting with all the children who stopped by with their friends and relatives.
Emily DiTomasso, 9, and her cousin, Allison Vuona, 5, both of Woonsocket, shared a moment with Santa as Allison's mom, Becky, looked on.
Emily later said she asked the Jolly Ol’ Fella for a Tangled doll, which has hair like that of Rapunsel, and slippers. Allison, meanwhile, asked for a Snow White doll and also for some footwear for the home, Stompies, while telling Santa the rest of her wish list.

St. Anthony's Chorale to sing Christmas Day Mass

The chorale at St. Anthony’s Church in Woonsocket, under the direction of Mary Bienkiewicz-Picard, will sing at the Christmas Day 9 a.m. Mass. The 22-member choir will perform a variety of traditional and ethnic musical selections. Guest soloist Ryan Latour will render the holiday selection of ‘O Holy Night.’ Latour recently performed at the Stadium Theatre’s version of ‘In the Mood’ and he is a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church.
The church will offer Christmas Eve Vigil at 5 p.m. Monday, but again there will be no Midnight Mass.
