Maurice C. Neyman

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Maurice C. Neyman, 82, of Great Rd., died December 19, 2012 at his home in North Smithfield. He was the husband of Florence (Carpentier) Neyman whom he married September 8, 1956.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late John and Amelia (Tasca) Neyman.
Mr. Neyman retired as an administrator for the Polaroid Company having worked there for 30 years. He was a Staff Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean War. Maurice was a member of the American Legion and a former board member at Union Cemetery.

WOONSOCKET- Florence E. (Leclair) Lozeau , 91, of Clinton St. died Saturday December 15, 2012, in Oakland Grove Health Center, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Coral L. Lozeau.
Born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Albert and Eva (McClure) Leclair.
Mrs. Lozeau worked as a meat wrapper, for the former A & P Grocery Store for several years prior to retiring.
She was a former member of the VFW Slatersville Women's Auxiliary.

PROVIDENCE – Now that the fog has dispersed and Providence College along with the rest of its Catholic school brethren have succeeded in making a clean break from the Big East, now seems as good a time as any to raise the question of just how appealing a basketball-centric conference is in the eyes of potential recruits.
To that end, PC head coach Ed Cooley feels that the Catholic Seven and the still-to-be-determined additional schools have an excellent shot to thrive and prosper due to basketball serving as the main draw at every institution.

City woman charged with making threatening gesture to teacher

WOONSOCKET — A 26-year-old city woman has been charged with disorderly conduct after police say she made threatening actions toward a teacher at Pothier Elementary School Tuesday.
According to police, the teacher was in a conference room, looking out the window shortly after 8 a.m. when she saw a woman later identified as Vanice Armstrong with children on the sidewalk. Armstrong allegedly made direct eye contact with the teacher, posed her hands like guns and gestured shooting the teacher as she laughed.

City Council modifies rezoning plans

WOONSOCKET – Members of the City Council accepted the recommendations of local planning officials and voted unanimously Monday night to modify proposed rezoning of two vacant parcels.
The council agreed to amend the rezoning of approximately six acres at the entrance to Highland Industrial Park so that it will now fall under city requirements for design review and also limit the use options allowed under its proposed I-1 (light industrial) zoning.

Dunn dazzles in debut, helps PC whip Colgate

PROVIDENCE — Call it a solid first step for Ed Cooley and his new-look Providence Friars.
On a night that saw freshman Kris Dunn make an immediate impact, Providence overwhelmed Colgate, 79-45, before 6,033 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. A point guard who on Tuesday night displayed an uncanny knack in finding his teammates, Dunn tossed 13 assists on his way to becoming the first PC player to reach double figures in said category in his first game with the program.

WOONSOCKET- Therese "Terry" (Levasseur) Cote, 84 died Monday, December 10, 2012 at Oakland Grove Health Care Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of Gerald A. Cote, also residing at Oakland Grove Health Care Center.
Terry was born in Montreal, Canada a daughter of the late Joseph and Laura Levasseur. She was employed by TJ Maxx for many years before retiring in 1988. Terry has resided in Woonsocket for most of her life, enjoying time spent with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed weekends in Maine.

Isiah Lindsey Jr.

WOONSOCKET- Isiah Lindsey Jr., 99, formerly of Main St Honora Lippitt, died December 16, 2012 in the Oakland Grove Health Center with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Bessie (Farrow) Lindsey.
Born in Newbury South Carolina, son of the late Isiah and Mary (Spearman) Lindsey.
He worked as a presser for Finkelstein, in Woonsocket for 40 years prior to retiring.
He was a member of St. James Baptist Church. Mr. Lindsey was one of the original founders of the Church and was the first ordained Deacon at St. James Baptist Church.

WOONSOCKET- Karen A. (Karewa) Sweeney, 64, passed away peacefully at home on December 17th.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Zielinski) Karewa.
Karen had been employed as the manager of Bryant Furniture for over 40 years. She enjoyed her job, her dogs and doing crafts.
She is survived by a son, Brent Paulhus; a brother, Robert Karewa, his wife Linda and daughter Amy; a granddaughter, Audrianna Paulhus; and several cousins and friends.

UPDATE -- Candlelight vigil planned in Woonsocket

WOONSOCKET – Due to overwhelming response, Saturday's candlelight vigil in memory of the lives lost at Sandy Hook School in Conn. has been moved to the mini-park, where Santa's house is.
Set for 6 p.m., the event is co-sponsored by Kids for Peace RI and the Lyrics in Motion dance studio.
The event will include dance performances by senior company members and an appearance by Michael Jackson impersonator Mark Fisher. There will be a balloon-release for each victim.
